As manufacturing moves from MES/MOM toward AI-enabled operations, a familiar question is resurfacing in a new form: who actually gets to act when early signals appear? MES and MOM improved visibility and control, but many organizations still struggle to translate insight into timely execution. This discussion explores how decision rights and guardrails—not algorithms—often determine whether AI helps teams act earlier or simply escalates issues faster. We’ll examine why acting early can feel riskier than waiting, how authority breaks down across shifts and roles, and what leaders must rethink as AI becomes part of day-to-day manufacturing decisions.
