Topic: Techniques for operations/maintenance worker enablement in Smart Manufacturing
The manufacturing industry continues to lose skilled labor due to aging of the workforce and other economic drivers. It is increasingly difficult to find and train skilled workers to back-fill retirees - in 2021, for example, the US department of labor reported 425,000 openings across the country for machinists and tool and die makers (World Economic Forum – “Empowering the next-generation manufacturing workforce through AR innovation”. According to EY, by 2030 this number will grow to 2.1 million world-wide if the skills gap is not addressed. Technologies are emerging, such as AR, VR and Connected Worker platforms, that can help with both training and productivity of new workers.
