Topic: Labor Shortages in Manufacturing: Impact and Solutions

According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, there are currently about 400K unfilled jobs in the manufacturing sector of the US. Carolyn Lee, president of the Manufacturing Institute, stated recently that, by 2033, we could have as many as 1.9 million open positions due to the growing shortfall of qualified workers.  In this discussion today, we will discuss this issue and we will try to answer questions such as:

1. Is this shortage real, and are you seeing it in your company or the companies you work with?
2. Is this really a shortage of labor, or is it more accurate to call this “skilled” or “qualified” labor?
3. Is this just a US issue, or is it affecting other geographies as well?
4. What is the impact of this shortfall now? 
5. How are companies addressing this in the short term?
6. What is driving this shortfall, in your view?
7. What needs to be done to reverse this trend?
