We seek to understand the state of the market, understand what companies have done that has or has not worked, documenting questions that MESA and the community can help answer. Overall, the goal is to accelerate each participant’s learning and progress toward Smart Manufacturing. 

Topic: What's Needed for Reshoring of Manufacturing?

There is much discussion currently about the need to reshore manufacturing that, over the years, has moved overseas.  It is safe to say that this is probably easier said than done, but it seems safe to say that many manufacturers are thinking through whether or not this is a realistic goal for them to aim for, even in the long term.  In this discussion, we will look at the requirements and feasibility of moving manufacturing (e.g. iPhones, Automobiles, etc) back to the higher-cost countries in North America, Europe, and elsewhere.

In the discussion we will try to answer questions such as:

1. Are you considering reshoring manufacturing?
2. What are the barriers to doing this (e.g. facilities, equipment, workforce)?
3. If you are considering this, what do you see as a realistic timeline for doing it?
4. How would reshoring affect your costs and product pricing? 
5. Is friendshoring or nearshoring part of the equation, where you avoid some of the political issues and distance?
