MESA Smart Manufacturing Community: Smart Connected Factory
MESA Smart Manufacturing Community: Smart Connected Factory
Wednesday, May 29, 2024 (12:00 AM - 12:00 AM) (CDT)
Description
Come share your experiences, stories, questions, and what you have learned in a safe, non-commercial environment. We seek to understand the state of the market, understand what companies have done that has or has not worked, documenting questions that MESA and the community can help answer. Overall, the goal is to accelerate each participant’s learning and progress toward Smart Manufacturing.
Topic: MES' role in the Smart Connected Factory - where does it fit?
MES has, historically, been the center of the universe for manufacturing systems, receiving schedules/orders from ERP, interacting with cell control and operators to execute that schedule and to collect data on manufacturing. With the advent of Industry 4.0 and the increasing integration of the supply chain and manufacturing, not to mention the advent of AI in manufacturing, is this still true? In this discussion, we will examine this question and other questions, such as:
- Was this ever true really? Have you used MES in the classic way in the past?
- If you do use MES, is it "keeping up" with the evolving nature of manufacturing and the increasing interconnection of the supply chain?
- Is AI having an impact on MES?
- Is MES still relevant?
- How does MES need to change?
